2005 - Round-3 Ice Racing Weekend
(Also Stephanie’s birthday weekend)
Stephanie and I stayed at the Minden House both Friday and Saturday nights. As usual, breakfast on Saturday morning was great.
Racing on Saturday was good fun — qualified second, then pulled off two 1st’s in my class. Was running my Hankook 401 P185/70/R13’s on the front at 22PSI. I think Tom Prentice and I swapped some paint — finally some battle wounds!
Took Stephanie out for an excellent birthday dinner at the Grill on the Gull. Tuna steak and pasta — yum. Then we hit the Rock Cliffe for a few drinks..
Sunday, a second place, and a third. I was challenging for second when I dropped a couple wheels in the turn 1 rut — trying to find a faster way around.. The rut was only 2-3 inches deep earlier in the day (wmv), but by the end of the day it was deep enough for the oil pan to smack down on the ice hard enough to dent, starving the engine for oil. Still finished on the lead lap..
Hauled the car home to swap engines. Ended up buying a JDM SOHC ZC from AJ Japanese on Kipling. Got one that was mated to an auto tranny, figuring the auto would have protected the engine a bit.
JDM Engine install went well (thank you Rudy Gilson for the help, and to Wade Brown for the shop time). Car was ready to go Thurs night. I should have grabbed a pic of the engrish on the oil filter that came on the engine.
