I have an 89 civic and when I turn the ignition swicth on the fuel pump comes on but doesent shut off.I can smell gas,I am assuming that is extra fuel being sent back through the return line.I cant tell what it is doing when it is running because i cant hear it over the motor.Any suggestions.

I have fixed the problem now i have another question. With the engine running the light on the computer flashes.I think its flashing 15 or 16 times then stops and then does it again.I know its telling me something but i dont know what, any ideas?

long flashes are 10's and short flashes are 1's, so two long flashes and 4 short flashes would be a Code 24. So if you're seeing one long flash and six short flashes, you've got a Code 16, which you can cross-reference with the list from the link above and begin diagnosing the problem from there. If you download the shop manual for your car, there are full diagnostic tests explained for each ECU code that you can follow.

Good luck!

All the flashes seem to be the same and there are 16 of them,i guess that means code 16.Is this correct?
