Hey guys,
where can i buy a rollbar camera mount around Toronto?
DJM:>
I think CSC Racing carries i/o port mounts, which are the best brand I've found for this.

I bought my I/O port at CSC racing on Guillermo's suggestion. Very good. IIRC list price is $140
Trevor H. on the SPDA just made a spiffy mount for his stock 2008 STi for about $100 in material. He should post photos.

It's not a picture of the camera mount in the Protege, but I know its exactly the one that Chris bought and that I'm thinking of getting.

Word. It does look exactly like the I/O Port mount. Good stuff.
I have the IO port mount.. works pretty good for ~$150.. though i'd like something that does more dampening / is better suited for little cameras (Canon SD850IS)..

hmmm - my camera is a point-n-shoot so i hope its ok with this type of mount. i've seen many DIY options that look close, but have less/no adjustment. If i could test the autopower or IO port mount wiht my camera, i could decide if its worth the $$

While you weren't around at the time David, I used to run a website with a lot of incar (and exterior mounted) video from pretty much every AutoX and Solo1 event I did.
IO port kinda sucks IMO (yeah I did have one). I used a Manfrotto SuperClamp (about $50 at henrys). But you gotta make sure it's damn tight. But it's easy on, easy off making repositioning... easy. Then you can use a quick disconnect at the top which is better than messing with the mount threads all the time (you'll eventually wear them out and/or cross thread them). Course it's possible you'll have a bar too thick for the superclamp in which case your options dwindle back down to the IO Port.
In the interest of full disclosure, my camera did drop once from the mount (undamaged). Guess I didn't have it tight enough. That wouldn't happen with the IO, but considering the price of that kind of gear these days, I'd go for the less stressful option. :) You could always auxillary mount it too if need be (like use the strap hole or something to anchor it from dropping completely)

You could try mounting your camera on my Autopower mount, which looks to be identical to the IO Port. I use it with a regular point-n-shoot Canon digicam... the picture quality is excellent, the only time that it showed any vibration is at high speeds... but that was because my tires weren't balanced and everything in the car was vibrating... lol They're $140.00 including tax.
On mine, I never used that strap thing to hold the camera on, I used it to secure the lap timer to my roll bar... lol
Yeah, I've never had any vibration issues whatsoever and my car isn't slow. Haha. I don't strap the camera down either. Just mount it up normally and go racing. No fuss. No muss. That video I did from GT Live @ VIR last year was done using this mount and an el cheapo miniDV camera and you won't see any camera shake in that video I don't think.

I use the IOPORT racing camera mount and it's great no vibration issues even when I had a warped driveshaft. You can pick them up at CSC racing.

The following pages have video (look for my name) using a Digital 8 camcorder and a Manfrotto Superclamp.

No shots with that clamp but if anyone's curious what the airstrip at Slemon is like... (http://www.wiredmotorsports.com/showarticle.asp?fid=20020820120318)

I have the I/O port and it works great with my Canon MiniDV camcorder with optical stabilization.
But a much cheaper alternative that should work with lightweight digital cameras is this:

What is the diameter of the bar that you have it mounted to.The ad says the largest u bolt comes in a 1.25 inch diameter. My rollbar is 1.75"

I have the autopower roll bar. on the site, it describes the tubing as:
Race roll bars are made with 1.750 x .120 DOM steel.
I guess its too big for that U clamp... :( I will see how the autopower mount looks and see if i can put one similar together. Otherwise, i think i'll get the autopower one.

The I/O Port comes in two separate clamp sizes to accomodate small and large tubing.
BTW, the strap is included because the Autoslalom and Solosprint rules require your camera be strapped down. Scrutineers aren't checking that though.

I only have the I/O port mount, but I have seen people use this small $30 mount (use only for small cameras). The solution to mount it to a 1.75" roll bar is simple. Buy a small section of plastic 1" or 1.25" plastic tube from Home Depot and use secure it with a steel hose clamp to your 1.75" diameter cage
But the more expensive I/O port has a special isolating damping material to reduce high frequency vibrations to the camera.
