Congrats, Hanif! You da cone master!

Marshall posted some angry words on Facebook about getting protested over having drilled rotors on his car. LOL. What's the scoop on that?

Meh! Cheater car! ;) Congrats Hanif! Dunno how you guys can be that smooth AND fast...

Yeah, Marsh seems pissed. But as I've mentioned before, Miata-ownership gives otherwise normal people a bad case of PMS. Not good for a series official like Marsh to be threatening to make someone's life a living hell though. Guess he threw away a steward's position.

90% of the competitors have likely never read the GCR's, and likely don't know what to do in the case that you think the Chief Steward (Marsh) has an illegal mod on his stock car. Talking to the director about it doesn't seem like a bad place to start.

Thank Carl - It's a shame I couldn't make it to Picton to go head-to-head with you this year...

Marsh brought a stock class car with cross-drilled rotors. The cross-drilled rotors are not specifically allowed in stock class (they are specifically allowed in SS and above thereby making them illegal in stock).

Marsh was re-classed to super stock for the event. There was no official protest filed but rather an inquiry to the Autoslalom Director. The Director had to be proactive and let Marshall know that a protest MAY be lodged against him. I believe it was simply an oversight by Marsh...

Yeah Hanif....didnt see you all year, so I guess maybe at the banquet??

Next year I may not even race here in Quebec regionally, so that may open up dates to go to Ontario.

Marsh should know better, but again as drilled discs go, no performance benefit (IMO) and very hard to hide....... anyways Congrats again!!!

I think WES was second in the championship so Congrats are in order for him too!!!

Congrats hanif. You certainly don't need an ITR to go fast, you were an inspiration in rotation with your stock civic hatch in 2k6 when i met you.

That's a shame about Marsh. Especially since (as far as i know) drilled rotors are only a hinderance in slalom. Was this a championship-deciding issue?

Well, cross drilling is a way of changing brake bias and temperature, but I think it was also perceived that it might offer a performance advantage due to lower weight.

This was an issue for STi owners TRYING to stay in stock, because the ONLY aftermarket rotors available to us were slotted or cross drilled. There were no blank rotors on the aftermarket for a car released in 2003 until late 2007. The dealers were charging $600 a piece for OE blank brake rotors, and they were the only source. Yup, $1200 for front rotors to stay in stock class. The only way we could ECONOMICALLY stay in stock class was to pick up used rotors in the forums. So it would cost us $200 to $300 for a pair of 50% worn rotors just to stay in stock, where a set of brand new cross-drilled Powerslots without material transfer problems were available for under $300.

Not an issue now as blanks are finally available for $80 or less a piece. But that's one of the reasons that keeping your STi in stock class didn't make a lot of sense.

Interesting points that come from this discussion.

In Quebec, as in most regions, there are always more than one steward ( if the steward is participating) so that there never is a conflict of interest. I usually am a steward for all that is not Stock class and David L usually does Stock.
This is an easy fix so that there is never weird feeling of what should be done.

As for illegal cars or more so for improperly classes cars, they normally are disqualified from the event. reclassing is pretty lenient in my books.

hey I just posted and saw that your post was editted. is there a reason or that? My post makes little sense as it refers to what was deleted.

Hey Carl,

In this particular case with Marsh as both the steward and the object of contention, the backup steward, Richard Poole, would likely have stepped up. I could also have filled in since I am also a licensed Steward for Autoslalom.

Congrats, you never cease to amaze. I only hope that some day I can learn some of your mad skillz. Hopefull next season, I'll actually be in the country to do a few events. I can't wait for the next time HADA does some schools to get you to instruct again.
