View Full Version : Power to manual steering conversion
Hi All,
My 95 Coupe has a power steering rack and system, but i'm not interested in running it...
I know a few of you have tried a conversion from power to non-power steering.. wondering if you could share your experiences, and some details of how the conversion was accomplished.
alternatively, anyone have any 5th Gen civic steering racks around??
meh.. with the rack's life expectancy to be less than 1000km, i'm just going to pull off the lines, drain the fluid and call it done.
anyone need 5th Gen Civic Power Steering lines, pump, d-series bracket?

In my experience Lee, I kept the fluid in the rack for lubrication. I just removed the PS pump and looped the lines.
I think Alec did it on his Type R, but he bought some sort of kit. Do a search on Honda Tech.

I did the same as Darren on the Teg.
Just looped the lines and disconnected the PS pump belt.
It's a bit tough around town but magic on the highway and track.

Yeah, there used to be some sort of power steering emlination kit going around that came with a reservoir so that the fluid could still flow through the rack but with minimal restriction.
I'm sure Hanif can chime in on this, but I believe the ratio on manuals suck more compared to the power racks so switching to a manual one will raise your number of turns lock to lock.

I converted to nonpower with the proper rack. My experience told me the following (from easiest to hard)
power steering;
non power steering;
power steering without belt.
