I have a few questions for the honda gurus. I'm in need of a car with a back seat. I really liked driving david's car in the hada shootout and thought a Honda would be a good option. I'm not sure why, but I've always liked the look of the 4 door integras. I don't really know anything about these cars, but what should I look for when I'm trying to find one. Were any of them available with an LSD? How much more do they weigh than the 2 door? Can they be made to handle as well as all the fast integras that are at the hada events? If I were to do an engine swap, what are good options that don't cost too much.
Sorry about all the newb questions.

All of the four doors (1994 to 1997) had the base model engine - the 140-142HP non-vtec. You won't find any 98+ since they weren't sold here, however, I have seen a few that were from the US (including the GS-R) but these are really rare. The wheelbase isn't that much longer (a few inches) and the weight difference is about 100lbs or so more. Only the Type-R came with the LSD.

My guess is they should handle roughly the same as the coupe, but I haven't seen one at a slalom or track, so I don't know for sure. I would think that you could get one to handle well enough with the right spring rates and Type-R rear sway bar.

As for an engine swap, I think the best bang for the buck would be a B20 ($500ish ?) with a Type-R transmission ($1000+). If you want a vtec motor, you're looking at least $1500 (B16 ie. SiR) up to $4000 (B18C5 ie. Type-R) for just the motor.

Hope that helps.

How much power does a b20 make?

The B20 makes 140HP but the torque is about 142 lb-ft, where as the stock Integra motor (the B18) is 124lb-ft. G and Kenny have the B20 Type-R transmission set-up and it's a proven set-up for an EG Civic. A buddy of mine has a B20 in his Integra and it definitely pulls a lot better than the stock B18.

I'm using a USDM B20Z (out of a '99-01 CR-V) that's rated at 146 crank hp.

BUT with a few bolt on's (intake/header/exhaust/B18B Integra intake manifold + ECU) I made 139 whp with 129 ft/lbs on a dynojet! (with P/S, and A/C!)

:D

There's LOTS of potential with any Integra platform!

The Only "problem" with older Honda's is Rust ... and the newest you will find is a 98. So, if you can find a clean, preferably NOT a Ontario Integra 4-door you have got a really good / fun 4 door platform to start with.

Word on the rust. My 17 year old Teg still runs. Parts are getting harder and harder to find. I have my car oil sprayed every year and have managed to keep rust to a minimum. B20z really brought the car to life.

As a counterpoint, my 95 teg was a rusted out pile, I don't think it had ever been oil sprayed, and it showed.

I had a 94 Teg Sedan Auto. Car was fine. Held it's value and I didn't really loose much when I sold it a year or two later. But yeah, rear wheel well rust is the thing to look out for. Mine didn't have it when I bought it, but started to develop it when I sold it.. sure enough this is before I really knew I should take the rubber stripping out.
