Hay gang,
just wondering if anyone has experience with electric winches on a trailer.
My dad recently gave me one and I am wondering on the hook up for the electrics, specifically on the truck side of things. The cable that he has is huge, a 1 or 0 gauge (?)
The winch was originally front mounted so the battery was not far away, but I'll need to run the cable to the back of the truck and create a disconnect. I understand that DC current looses power over a long run, is this a problem over the length of the Pathfinder?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am tempted to buy a battery and a trickle charger (solar?) and mount that to the trailer.

ain't laziness grand:rolleyes:

Post on the CASC forum, Andrew Cordeiro has one on his trailer that he tows his Scirocco in. (or contact him on F/Book)

a deep-cycle and a solar trickle would be a great way to do this. Good idea.

I wouldn't think it will be a problem. I used to own a winch that had 20' power cables and it worked fine. The only downside was I used it on the front of the vehicle and they were always in the way.

Shane - I went through this in the spring. I ended up with a 25' 4GA cable with industrial connectors at both ends. Then I put a 1' cable with connector hooked up to the battery. Give me a call and we talk about the details.

Thanks guys,
Andy, I'll be giving you a call, but it might be closer to the spring (assuming I don't see you before then). the cold kills most of my initiative:o
