Hey DOOD!!
Sooooo 2000 Civic Sedan, should be the D16Y7 motor with the converter built into the exhaust manifold.
The only thing that model of Civic had to control NoX is the 3-way converter. (has no EGR valve)
Those converters are prone to cracking by the primary 02 sensor so if it is cracked the e-test numbers can be affected. As well, if the exhaust manifold/converter has been replaced with an aftermarket one (OE Honda is like $1,200~ish parts alone) I find that they tend to fail e-test alot and/or tend to cause the CEL to come on. (usually a P0420 catalytic converter efficiency failure)
So most likely your friend will need an OE Honda converter and possibly 1 (primary) and/or 2 (secondary) 02 sensor(s) if they're seized.
So if she hasn't had any light come on...??? As far as she knows nothing has been replaced. So, basically I need to price a 3-way? Any idea what aftermarket costs?
Not much chance it's anything else huh? There is that $450 repair cost limit deal...
