Hey, I have a problem with my 2006 Honda civic Si coupe, the clutch creaks both when depressed and released.

I had the dealership apply some lube but it only worked for a half day.

I don't know the extent of the work done or type of lube, as they did not charge me anything and thus no work order.

I don't want to have to replace the clutch master cylinder if possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is a vid of the problem.... B.t.w. driveline is all stock and original, 69K on car.

Dunno if it's the same issue as my G35, but the clutch pedal on the G used to make an intermittent creaking/clicking noise because the pin that connects the pedal to the lever that goes to the m/c was rotating in its hole as I depressed the pedal and binding up a bit in the process. I threw some lithium grease on it and the noise is gone.

Come on guys, your acting as if I've asked an electrical question.:D

On an old EG coupe I had as a winter beater, it had a super creaky clutch pedal like yours. Changed out the slave cylinder that actuates the clutch fork arm and the creaking was gone. But your car is a cable tranny, so it's gotta be at the m/c or in the pedal arm itself like it was on my G. What else could it be? Have you had knee surgery? Squeaky shoes? Bad gas? :p

My crx's were all cable. WD 40 would only last a short time, so every couple months I'd just cover the cable with Vaseline, but some times I used axle grease. Depends on what's closer. I just greased the shit out of everything that moved until the squeaking stopped.

Miles... you make a post like that on here and expect it to be left alone?!? I'm expecting to come back later today and this thread will be 4 pages long with jokes about you grabbing vaseline or "whatever's closer"

Thanks guys, I'll just lube the crap out of everything this weekend and then take it from there.

I don't want to be spending too much money on this if I can help it as every little bit of extra cash is going towards prep for the July event at Shannonville.

I am curious to see how long this tread stays on topic.

Don't think it's the cables, since you'd only hear squeaking from those if you were actually changing gears/moving the shift lever, right? So it's gotta be coming from somewhere between the pedal and m/c, I would think. Turtle has probably come across this type of problem before. I'll send him the video link and see what he thinks.

It's still a hydraulic clutch like the EG. I had the same thing with my EG where it just needed some lube where the slave cylinder actuates the clutch release fork. It sounded like it was inside the cabin too but it wasn't. Have someone press the clutch while your head is under the hood to see if tits the same problem.

See pic and apply grease to the point that has the 'B-23-20' note pointing to it.

Yeah, you know what, you're right. I'm a maroon. There is still a slave cylinder, so giving her a good lube wouldn't be a bad place to start, plus replacing the slave is easy enough too if the lubage doesn't do it.

Spoke to Turtle. He's thinking the clutch pedal spring or the m/c.

My 2000 SiR did exactly the same thing. Made a creak sound when pressing the clutch pedal, and you could actually feel something through the pedal at the same time. I decided that it was time to do an upgraded clutch on the car anyway, so I pulled the transmission. Basically it was all the grease on the release bearing and clutch fork had become all crusty and dried up (hehe time for more vaseline jokes). My guess is the extra heat from track driving and autocross causes the grease to cook a little bit and turn into the creaky crusty stuff. Of course if you go to pull the transmission on your car, I would highly recommend that you do a full clutch job (resurface flywheel, new release bearing, new friction disk and pressure plate) at that point, since it's such a pain to drop the transmission (after dropping the subframe). I have done a few 8th gen tranny drops in my day (3 times in one day at speed world challenge!!), it takes about 4 hours on a full mass production car (our record at the track was 45 minutes when we found out after putting the car back together that we should have shaved a few mm of material from the bell housing to clear a new aftermarket clutch.

Thanks for all the input, the noise actually seems to be coming from inside the car which leads me to believe that the M/C is O.K.

I'm going to grease the whole thing as initially we just spayed some lube in there.

If that does not work then out will come the clutch pedal and assembly as that seems to be the source of the noise.

The 5 stages of clutch creak…

1) Denial- The clutch is fine; the noise will eventually go away just like all the others.
2) Anger- Freakin’ Honda! Do you know how much I paid for this car!
3) Bargaining- Lube, lots and lots of lube, that should do it.
4) Depression- Now this is going to cost me real money.
5) Acceptance- Ordered master cylinder, there will be no drinking this weekend or next.

The MC was replaced yesterday, it has fixed the problem.

Thanks to all those who chimed in.
