I have 2500 to spend ... let me know.

Jason:

I just did a quick check on trader.ca and I saw several hatches for sale within your price range. I did notice a lot of autos but there were a few 5spds there.

I'm also looking for a 5-speed replacement for my beater but was completely put off by the two hatches I went to go see form the trader. Both were in "excellent running condition" but both were total heaps of crap. I was so angry since I had called up both of them specifically asking for more information before making the drive out.

add another $1G and get EK, less rust issues.

Got a 96' hatch that needs a bit of work (and a few parts). Minimal rust, few dings.
$2200.00 LMK

Yeah Jason, buy Dale's car, I've seen it in person, it's pretty clean!

Well a 6th gen is sort of out side the area I wanted to go for a race vehicle ...

but I might as well entertain all options .. so what work needs to be done to it?

what has been done to it?

and where is it located?

Agreed, but having three other EG's in the house mean I have a garage full of spares to call upon when needed :)

Thanks Moose,

I was browsing Craigslist .. I have a car I'm going to see on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Of course I'm still very much attached to the 5th gen hatchback.

you get the idea:p

I don't know any of the sellers, but Ryan or Bryan may:confused:

Good Luck

I've heard the GSR is a nice car:D

but all the other tegs kinda gets boned in solo 2 with the "ARRRRRRRRR" around (don't remember Stock classifications)

I wouldn't bother with a teg. I don't think they can be competitive unless its a Type-R, or you're willing to spend the money to properly prepare it for SS or SP. Shane's GSR is a good example, but I can still think of a good number of cars that would be quicker in DSS (the Cobalt and 2.5 RS come to mind).

I think you should get a Miata.

Ryan, I thought Erick's (Smoothe) DA for $500 looked like a good buy....$500 is $500! it is for a beater! (4th link from the top)

And I agree for Autoslalom, like I said but all the other tegs kinda gets boned in solo 2 with the "ARRRRRRRRR" around unless it is an R you have no shot with an equal driver.

and my car is nowhere near optimized:o

I'd have to spend cubic dollars and move to SP to be close to the R, (update / backdate the drivetrain, then swap shells :D) and there is still the 2.5 RS and the Cobalt SS.

Erick's a great guy, but I just don't think a $500 DA (read: almost 20 years old!) is a good base for a competitive autoslalom car. Didn't Wes or Hanif run a DA for a while? I'm sure they'd agree that EGs are a much better starting point.

Of course, when cost is a factor anything will do. Find an old Colt or 323....! :D

We both did - the same car. I was very happy with the DA to be quite honest. It actually felt more nimble than the EG, and it certainly has a much lower centre of gravity. The front radius rod suspension has much better toe control during accel and decel but the decreased suspension travel (when compared to the EG) meant more bump steer if you were too low or had too little spring. The steering rack also has a quicker ratio on the DA.

Up until a couple of months before I sold the car, the DA was going to be my solo1 car - B20, LSD trans, cage, gutted interior, the whole works, but then Adrian's white EG came up for sale, and well, the rest is history.

For SOLO2, grab an ITR for DS, or a stock HS EG and do shocks, brakes, ubers and then train the heck out of the driver :) For Solo1, there are many more choices since you can plan to land in any number of competitive classes.

^ I knew how Hanif felt (feels) about the DA.

My thought was: Jay is now using tokens. $500 give him a good beater - at the bottom of the depreciation curve - that will still service as a fun, if not competitive, autoslalom car. That will give him time to find the ideal car for the future (read competition) an he is then not pressured to find the best car available vs the best car.

edit: and then he has an Ice racer for the future

besides by sharing my opinion, I get to bump my post count up! took me ~6years to get to ~1500 on the old forum!:D soooo more random thoughts to come:p

Edit : crap I should have tripple posted!

BTW. Just a little timbit on EG vs DA

Back in the day, I went to the truck scales with my EG, my buddy with his DA and another homie of ours with his EG Si. All of them had B-series in them, sway, wheels & none with A/C.

my 92 EG (CX) --->1030 KG
my buddys 92 DA (RS) --->1040 KG
the other 92 EG (Si) --->1110 KG
