Well guys, my golf finally decided to kick the bucket. It blew a head gasket on Monday and combined with other numerous problems including the exhaust, suspension & structural rear seat damage, it's simply not worth fixing anymore.
I'm looking for something in the $2000 range (or under) that is fuel efficient, well maintained & will not break my leg should anything need to be replaced.
Any suggestions?

Friend of mine, has a pretty clean 91 Jetta 8V (4dr) wants around $1400, fairly well maintained and rather reliable - car is solid. PM me for his #.

I'm considering getting rid of the BMW and/or the Civic.
Problem with the BMW (93 318is) is about three weeks ago a nice stone off a rig put a spiderweb crack on the bottom, passenger corner (way at the bottom)... meaning you'd have to replace it to get it Safetied. Also there is no e-brake (no ebrak shoes in the rear rotors) so that needs to be done too. Also I think the battery is kiking the bucket, I'll try to get it tested this weekend to confirm.
The interior is in pretty damned good shape, better than when I got it. The only real visual issues are around both front door handles the door panel carpet isn't tucked in the handle moulding, so you can see a little yellow foam. Also there's a frayed area of stitching on the rear seats, bottom, near the front of the seats. About.. I dunno. 2 inches I guess. Also the adhesive that holds the ceiling liner on is toast, so I"ve stapled it in place... you can't tell, unless you look up. :) Motor has 356K on it. I haven't revved it above 4500. yeah.. anyhow not sure what it's worth, probably best for me to just drive it into the ground then try to pawn off the interior bits.. but if there's interest.. lemmie know. The AC doesn't work (didn't when I got it) but everything else is good, wipers, power locks, etc... course the stereo in he car is probably worth more than the car so that'd be optional. :)
The Civic.. 92 EG Hatch, Red, JDM D15B with S20 LSD tranny.. about 80K on the motor.. guestimate.. over 300k on the chasis but the rust is limited to the rear trunk deck lid thing and the rear 1/4's, bolt in roll cage, sparco drivers seat, original passenger seat, whale dick intake with a k&n tip, wrapped headers, custom exhaust, ITR suspension on revalved 12/14K tein HAs. ITR brakes. ITR wheels. JDM fuel program. Umm.. on yeah one of those rear subframe braces for ITR sway bar (the brace is on, I haven't put the bar on though but I have gotten the exhaust modified so it's no longer in the way to install that). New Cat on it. Drives great. I dunno what to do with it. I might put it back to a street car (rear seats are in, but not usable)..
Anyhow, probably doesn't help you.. but... it's something. :)

You can also shoot Dale an email at import specialists. Dale <dale@importspecialist.ca>
He's got a couple EGs and EKs that are in good shape. Everything should be mechanically sound and he is a mechanic and you can trust him. Don't know anything about prices though.

Bryan & Ryan - thanks for the references.
Taylor - I'll pass on the BMW. And the civic sounds too tempting to take onto the track! hehehe.
Miles - thanks for the contact, I'm going to email Dale
So many choices...so little time...
