View Full Version : 92 Integra running issue

This is similar to something asked a couple of weeks ago....

The Integra runs fine when the car is cold or the outside temperature is cold (like this morning), but when the outside temperature is a little warmer and the car has been running at highway speed for 15-20 minutes, then back to city speeds, it starts acting up.

It sputters and chugs when you pull away from a stop, sounding real bad, then it kicks in and away we go. It only seems to do it at rpm below 2800-3000 and most of the time just in first or second gear.

When you come up to a light, it struggles most of the time. Sometimes it runs fine until you take off and sometimes it sputters, sputters, sputters, stall. It fires up after few extra revolutions, then sputters until it gets above 3000 rpm.

A couple of times I have done a short highway run, pulled off and a couple of minutes later it starts sputtering. Then I have got back on the highway for another short run (10-15 minutes) and it was fine both on the highway and when I pulled off. Other times, it runs like shit when I pull off. It never has issues on the highway while moving at highway speed.

The car is ailing and I am looking for a fix to get through March and maybe half of April, hopefully without having to spend a lot of money.

Thanks

I would suspect the IACV. I tried running with mine disconnected for a day -- had very similar behaviours.

I threw some old plugs and wires in it this morning and it seemed to run fine. I'll know for sure if that was indeed the issue this afternoon when it is warmer....

The old plugs looked fine (actually much better than the ones I threw in) and so did the wires, but we'll see...

Thanks Lee.

Had a similar problem with my Si a few years ago, usually happened when the air was damp (it was around this time of year). Turned out to be the cap and rotor. Had those replaced, as well as the plugs and wires - no problems since.

Don't know if that helps.

Bryan, good suggestion but it runs just as bad (or worst) in the dry. It is most effected by temperature.

I had something like that with the beater last summer. It would be fine when cold, but start to act up when warm - chugging, loss of power, etc. At high rpms it was fine, only at high-load at low rpms (when compression was highest) would the symptoms appear.

I swapped plugs and the problem dissapeared.

Some new plugs seem to have done the trick.

Thanks
