Hello,
After a fun day at Shannonville Fabi track, i realized i have an ongoing issue with my tires rubbing the inside frame on my EG. It seems that under turning, my tires rub the inside frame of the car at certain Gs - not entirely sure when or why. I noticed it at Fabi mostly when i was making the left-hand turn, before the right-hand hairpin onto the straight.
The problem was there before, but i didn't 'hear' it as clearly, but could see the effects when changing tires at the end of events. there is no paint on the frame where the rubbing happens, and its starting to rust :(
Is there any reason NOT to run spacers on the front wheels? I have a set, and would consider running them - but i've heard they make the front weaker, and can potentially lead to problems.
What other options do i have to prevent the rubbing?

If you run spacers, make sure you have enough thread on the lugs when you put your wheels on (ie. read, should do extended studs).
Another option is to run lower offset rims. This will push the wheels more outward.

What size and offset wheel are you using? What size tire? How low is your car?
It would seem that hitting the inside frame rail on a non-steering lock corner is indicative off much more that simply the wrong size tire or wheel...
I've had the rubbing you mention but would never hit on the track - only on full steering lock corners in an autoslalom.

i am not sure of the offset of the rims, as they are either baught or borrowed from Miles and Martin. The size is 205/50/15.
My car is dropped between 1.75" and 2", but my camber is pretty close to stock (yes, i was kinda shocked). I'll try to take some pix to attempt to illustrate the problem in more detail. My guess is raising the car up a bit will be the simple option, as i can't really budget for different wheels at this stage.

Make sure that it keeps rubbing so that the rust doesn't penetrate.

every time i take the car out to an event (which is the only times i drive the car) it cleans it up nice and shiny :D
Its been suggested that bigger knuckles might also help - since i'm sure Ken is running a lower ride-height than i am... I've got Roger's old SiR brakes which i'm gonna put on eventually, but this little issue might fast-forward the process.

I really think it's your offsets to tell you the truth. It's weird that you rub and I don't....

Try a couple of 2.5mm spacers. Princess Auto sells them for a couple bux. You can stack 2 to get 5mm. I ran 5mm spacers on the rear of my rex without issues. But make sure you have enough full turns to pass tech just to be safe.

I may try spacers - i have two that i can run at Fabi to see how it feels.
I don't actually touch when the car is sitting in the pits - only under load in turns.

I have many different rims with slightly different offsets but only when we use our gramlight rims I have to use 3 mm spacers in the front to prevent the tires from rubbing.
